The girl’s hockey team won their knockout match and will now have a home soon. The girls have produced an outstanding effort and we wish them good luck in their next round. Year 6 students had their first transition meeting with Taree High School staff and there was a parent information session too. Term 2 is at an end on Friday and I am sure all the students and staff look forward to the break. But, before that happens, the school will celebrate NAIDOC Week on July 1. The results from the long jump and shot put events have been added to those attained at the schools’ House Carnival on Bob Collier Oval and the House Champions announced in time for end of term assembly. Canteen supervisor Michelle thanks those who helped at the sports carnival and kept students and supporters well fed; and for the assistance transporting, cooking and setting up.
Wallamba’s successful Mongolian day
Wallamba CWA Branch welcomed 45 members from the Mid-North Coast group, two guest speakers and helper John, for the International Day on Mongolia last Tuesday. Fiona Campbell gave a presentation on her recent trip to Mongolia, with photos and tales of the many experiences she enjoyed. Sam Everett from Sweet Pea and Mumma demonstrated the art of felt making; group international officer Penny Britton spoke on the work of ACWW, and Coins for Friendship bowls were passed around to raise funds for work in countries including Mongolia. Some of the Wallamba members dressed in Mongolian costume.
Happy 90th birthday
I was honoured to attend a 90th birthday morning tea for friend Fran Morris last Thursday. I have known Fran for a number of years as a Red Cross member, and it was a delight to help her celebrate this important milestone. I thank her daughter Maureen for the invitation. We were treated to a presentation of Fran’s life put together by family members. The family had made a wonderful 100 page photo book presented by daughter Suzanne. It tells Fran’s life story from growing up in Sydney’s Kings Cross area to now, including her hot air balloon flight at the age of 80. Fran received lots of lovely flowers and cards.
