ANOTHER week in paradise has seen a mixed week with a couple of “stinker” days and the rest some nice cool ones, with a touch of rain for some areas. It has also been a big week in golf.

Saturday competition 2015 Tiger Pins
LAST Saturday a good field turned out for the 2015 Tiger Pins, a competition unique in Australia (to our knowledge), with two flags on each green, a white one for the front nine and a blue one for the back. Also the pins are all in quite difficult locations and with the tees in different spots as well, for most players it is a completely different course. Of course not everyone likes the concept, but for most players they take it as a real challenge. The two top positions for the day were the overall scratch and the overall nett. In the scratch section, Reid Brown again came to the fore with a magnificent one under par 71, in his words, “the best round he has ever played” with the difficulty of the course taken into consideration. Reid’s round was four shots better than the next best, that of Adam Beattie with a fine 75 (nett 68). Another equally fine round was that of 28 marker in C-grade, Cameron Potts, who shot 91/nett 63, also four shots in front of his nearest rival. Check your handicap next week Cameron. Well played, lads.
Other results were Adam Beattie (A-grade nett), Geoff Swaffield (B-grade nett 67) and long time member John Turner who also shot nett 67 to win C-grade nett. In the scratch section, A-grade went to Jason Fowles with 78, B-grade to Terry Harris with 84 and Adam Buchtmann won C-grade with a fine 89 on a countback from an unlucky Peter Tait.
With two flags on each green players had only one shot to each flag, and with the difficulty of their positions, so NTP’s should have been further away than normal, but alas that was not the case. All five were inside six feet (1.8 m). “Shot of the day” goes to the closest of the NTP winners and modesty normally forbids me to say who that was, but Graham Steel had a lucky shot to 98 cm to win the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th. Other winners included Jason Fowles on the Bent on Food 9th/18th, Reid Brown the Caddies Restaurant 3rd/12th, Cameron Potts the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th and Rod Desborough hit a good shot to win the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th hole.
Wednesday veterans
FORTY nine veterans competed for the December medal last week and it was the John Strybis day after his 66 nett beat an unlucky Dave Andrews on a countback. Great scoring boys. In the sharpshooting category evergreen Rex White won the 3rd/12th with a good shot, as did Bill Osborne on the 7th/16thwith an even better shot. Medal winner John Strybis had an extra good day when he also won the NTP for second shot to the 9th/18th.
Wednesday Twilight Ambrose
THE prospect of “dirty” weather last week resulted in a relatively smaller field than usual, but scoring was as hot as usual. Winners on the day were members of the Operators team captained by Craig Miggins. They finished just under a shot in front of second placed Hintons (James Urquhart), who in turn were one third of a shot in front of Browns plus one (Maitlan Brown). Below par (Clare Cattell) were fourth but missed out on the cash. Brendon Boyd was the lucky winner of the club voucher/port and Antony Urquhart or Scott Polley was the winner of the NTP on the 3rd (I am still trying to decipher the winner).
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
I DON’T know why but scoring last Thursday for the LJ Hooker Chook Run was quite unbelievable. In fact one player on 21 and one on 22 points missed out on a cut of the prize money. Winner with 23 points was Peter Hinton from runner-up Ken Squires on 22 points. Ken was one of four players with 22, the next and third place getter Dave Stackpool. Dave in turn then beat Rod Walch also on a countback. Then Rod beat Ian Scarr on a countback, Ian missing out because the prizemoney had run out. Dave Elliott was the unlucky 21 point player who also missed out on some prizemoney. Being the last Thursday of the month, the LJ Hooker Umbrella was up for grabs and James Urquhart was the winner with a modest 71 points, Dave Andrews and Sandy Dunn equal second with 69.
Coming events
THIS Saturday is the December Taree Toyota Monthly Mug with MRD Electrical Medals and Kangaroofing Long Drives on as well. I might see you there. Good luck and good golfing.
