Safety on our roads is of paramount importance regardless of age. With almost 2500 people aged 60+ killed or injured in the greater Hunter Region between 2009 and 2013, the free Safer Seniors 2016 calendar aims to target issues that are specifically relevant to our senior drivers.
Greater Taree City Council's road safety officer, Chris Dimarco, believes "the calendar has stunning historic photographs with great road safety information for 60+ drivers".
The Safer Seniors 2016 calendar was developed with the assistance of local seniors, who identified their key concerns when driving on our roads. The calendar covers new legislation/road rules, tips for low risk driving, and mobility options, with a section at the back providing contact details for emergency services, medical and health-related services, and various government agencies.
"It's a great resource and I encourage seniors to pick up their free calendar, read the information, and reminisce over the beautiful historical photos", added Chris.
The calendars - available for free at Greater Taree City Council libraries and the customer service centre in Pulteney Street - are funded by the Local Government Road Safety Program.
