“MINISTER Skinner gave her firm commitment work will commence this term.”
That is the news from member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead about the Manning Hospital stage one redevelopment following his meeting in Sydney on Wednesday, May 5 with NSW Minister for Health, Jillian Skinner.
The Manning River Times sought comment from Mr Bromhead and Mrs Skinner about the meeting to learn of the issues that were raised for discussion.
It was expected that Mr Bromhead would bring to the table the pre-election promise of $20 million for stage one redevelopment of Manning Hospital and the proposal for Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) to enter into a public-private partnership agreement with Mayo Private Hospital to deliver public patient access to its Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory in Taree.
Mr Bromhead said yesterday, “I spoke to the minister on a number of issues, including the delivery of the Manning Base Hospital upgrade.”
“I am determined to see stage one completed and minister Skinner gave her firm commitment work will commence this term,” Mr Bromhead said.
“I look forward to seeing the business case developed for the project over the coming months.”
Mr Bromhead provided his response by email and his office advised that he was not available to interview as he was in the Legislative Assembly Chamber at Parliament House in Sydney. Consequently, the Manning River Times could not obtain additional information from Mr Bromhead as to whether Mrs Skinner considered the issue of the public-private partnership agreement with Mayo Private Hospital.
Mrs Skinner confirmed the meeting with Mr Bromhead “to discuss the Manning River (sic) Hospital and I reaffirmed our commitment that work will commence on the upgrade this term.”
“The NSW Liberals and Nationals government has a proven track record of delivering on its commitments,” Mrs Skinner said.
“I am proud to say that every hospital upgrade we promised before the last election has been delivered or is under way - and that will be our approach for health infrastructure upgrades this term.”
