Taree, Harrington and Forster feature in the rankings based on research conducted by Jesuit Social Services and Catholic Social Services Australia (see main story).
The Australian Bureau of Statistics also recently released its National Regional Profile data 2009-2013 and it provides the numbers that deliver a statistical snapshot of our region. The ABS data profile shows the workforce in the Taree region has endured the employment challenges of losing 148 businesses during the 2009-2013 period.
The statistics reveal a declining trend of 1515 businesses in 2009 - down to 1367 in 2013. Further detail about the ABS report can be found in the July 15 edition of The Manning River Times.
Yesterday (July 23) the minister for regional development John Barilaro and member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead attended Taree TAFE to announce "that private and government investment in job creation since 2011 has exceeded $4 billion across regional NSW."
Mr Barilaro revealed job creation figures for the Hunter region, the North Coast and Central West but not the Mid North Coast.
"Since 2011 funding in excess of $100 million from the NSW government has assisted businesses across regional NSW to expand operations and create more jobs," Mr Barilaro said.
"Importantly, for every dollar invested by the government we have seen $40 from the private sector.
"The North Coast has benefited particularly from these initiatives with the creation of over 2700 jobs locally over this period.
"The Central West has benefited from the creation of over 1300 jobs as a direct result of joint investment.
"The Hunter region has seen the creation of over 2000 jobs locally, in an area that has suffered from a downturn in traditional industries.
"The existing skilled workforce of regional NSW make it an attractive location for businesses to invest and grow.
"Over past 12 months the number of employed people in regional NSW has increased by 12,500.
"The NSW Government is focused on the creation of the jobs of the future and will continue to support businesses across regional NSW," Mr Barilaro added.
