New to the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival is a Genealogy Fair to be held at the Wingham Memorial Services Club. This informative workshop will give you a starting point when researching your family tree.
Combining the expert advice of three organisations, the workshop is a must for those curious about their ancestry.
Representatives of the Manning Valley Historical Society, Manning Wallamba Family History Society and Latter Day Saints Family History will be on hand to shed light on a subject that can often be daunting.
John and Lorraine Turtle will offer guidance on how to use Births, Deaths and Marriages not only in Australia but overseas.
“We really want to emphasise to people that what you see on a birth certificate isn’t always accurate,” said Barbara Waters of the Manning Valley Historical Society.
Kay Wallace of MVHS will hold a session on how to use and get the best from Trove, the Australian online library database, and Graeme Rose of the Manning Wallamba Family History Society will give an interesting presentation on DNA.
There will be time for questions and Barbara said people are encouraged to bring their charged laptops/iPads/iPhones as there will be Wi Fi available but no power.
The genealogy workshop will take place on May 28 from 10am - 2pm at the Wingham Memorial Services Club. Tickets are $20 and available from www.manninghistorical.org (follow the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival link) – a pre-research form can be downloaded here too.
