Council road crews worked throughout Saturday and Sunday, inspecting flooding and responding to calls for removal of debris across roads, particularly to the north. Clean-up and repairs will continue through coming weeks as significant damage was sustained to both sealed and unsealed roads in various areas across the region.
"The worst hit areas were north of Wingham, with a number of roads remaining closed until further notice. We're continuing to assess the damage and urge motorists to take care and observe signage as they travel in and around these areas," Dan Park, Senior Leader Infrastructure Services said.
Middlebrook Road at Lyons Crossing, and Warriwillah Road in Marlee are currently closed due to flooding at a number of causeways. Toorak Lane Moto remains closed due to a damaged culvert, and construction work to replace the Potts Bridge on Comboyne Road has been delayed.
"A big thanks to drivers on our roads this weekend, whose sensible approach and care during the wet weather meant we avoided any major situations and damage to person or property", added Dan. Motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions, remain patient while damage is assessed and roads repaired, and never drive over flooded roads.
