Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the Abbott-Truss government was delivering on a Coalition election commitment to fully fund the $16 million upgrade.
"Bucketts Way is the second oldest tourist drive in the state, providing a scenic detour off the Pacific Highway through forest, farmland and regional towns," Mr Truss said.
"The rehabilitation of Bucketts Way will restore this scenic road and improve safety for motorists and reducing travel time."
Federal Member for Lyne David Gillespie said the works will be undertaken in three stages with priority works starting in May.
"Works will include the rehabilitation and widening of the existing road pavement, drainage and improvements to intersections," Dr Gillespie said.
"The upgrade will include works on three kilometres of road from the Purfleet roundabout at the intersection of Bucketts Way and Manning River Drive, through to the entrance to the Bucketts Way Landfill.
"During construction commuters in the Manning and Gloucester areas should plan for minor delays including changes to traffic flow, reduced speed limits and single lane operation."
Greater Taree City Council mayor Paul Hogan said Ditchfield Contracting Pty Ltd will carry out the first stage of works in Taree.
"An information session will be held Tuesday April 28 from 5.30pm at the Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall to provide further details of how traffic flow and other services will be managed in Taree," Cr Hogan said.
Businesses and individuals interested in being kept up to date about these works or in attending the information session should register, by emailing community@gtcc.nsw.gov.au.
Works are scheduled for completion in early 2016, subject to weather and on site conditions.
