At 9am the Uniting Church in Wingham will be holding its annual Anzac service. This is usually well attended by ex-service people, though all public are welcome.
The service promises to be a touching event, with participation by people in the forces, music by young local duo Sweet Nothin’, and a poetry reading by Pam Oke. The service will be followed by morning tea.
In the afternoon the Wingham Ministers Fraternal, with the assistance of the Wingham RSL Sub-branch, is hosting a service at the Wingham Town Hall which will kick off at 2pm.
The Baptist Pastor Jim Tilson, Rev Michael Deal of the Presbyterian Church, Rev Darrell McKeough of the Uniting Church, and Rev Brian Ford of the Anglican Church are inviting the public to join in the service which aims to replicate community thanksgiving services that were held during the war.
Pastor Jim Tilson will be the MC for the service, and the special guest speaker will be Tracey Sutherland, a former Wingham resident who is a chaplain for a major hospital in Sydney, as well as being a chaplain in the Army Reserves.
Music will be provided by musicians from the combined congregations. The activities will be end with an afternoon tea, and anyone attending is asked to please consider bringing a plate of food to share.
