Saturday ‘Wally Masters’ Stableford
SIXTY five players turned out for the annual ‘Wally Masters’ cross country event, again sponsored by Wayne ‘Wally’ Lewis and Gary Masters, and ironically it was won by their mate James King with 44 big points. Well done and congratulations James.
Several others were rewarded for their good scores as well, with Barry Brown winning A-grade with 39 points, Franz Schubert B grade (41 points) and Daryl Heywood C grade with 43 points. Daryl is certainly in good form of late. His golf isn’t bad either.
Runners-up were Rod Brown (A grade with 38), Luke Murray (B grade 40 points) and Corey Moore (C grade and 40 points). The ‘naga’ (not a compliment) award went to Tim Smith with a modest 15 points. However he did win a golf bag for his efforts. Balls went out to 35 on a countback. Nearest to the pin winners included Reid Brown on the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/1oth, Rex White the 3rd/12th, Brad Coleman the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th, Lionel Fell did well to win the 7th/16th Bayview Seafood’s hole with is driver and Rod Desborough won the Bent on Food 9th/18th with a good shot.
Wednesday Veterans
FORTY three veterans enjoyed warm conditions Wednesday last, with scoring down a little on previous events. Captain Bill Osborne was the best on the day winning with 41 points. Brian Haynes beat several players on 38 points for second spot and Courtney Adamson did likewise to claim third spot. Rex Burrell won the NTP on the 3rd/12th and Ted Bowen won the 7th/16th.
Wednesday Ambrose
ANOTHER good field of 46 players resulted in some quite phenomenal scores returned, including a club record scratch score for the nine hole ambrose. Best score in the history of our club’s Wednesday ambrose was eight under par by several teams, but last week this was broken by the “Where’s Wally” team of Mark Fotheringham, Reid Brown, Craig Stayman and Col Tubby. Apparently they were very close to 10 under, but an eagle putt on the eighth just missed. Needless to say, they also won the day, but their handicaps will be a little less next week. Anyway congrats gentlemen. Second spot, also with a good score, was the “Nobodies” team captained by Richard Clark with ‘Doops’ (Pat Turner) in third spot. ‘Manning Smash Repairs’ (Bob Polley) were six under par, but their handicap let them down, finishing in fourth spot.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
A RELATIVELY small field of 22 players enjoyed fine conditions Thursday, with Ian Wheeler especially having a good day. ‘Wheels’ played his best game for a while to record 22 points and win the day. Barry Brown is hitting the ball well at the moment and finished with 20 points to be runner-up. Reid Brown played two rounds, including one of 19 points, to beat a couple of others on a countback. Reid also won the NTP on the third hole and Neville Blanch did likewise on the seventh.
Coming events
THIS week’s event is a single stableford and the qualifier for the new ‘Specsavers’ handicap match play event. Also pennants start this Sunday. Good luck and good golfing.
