The Greater Taree Community Safety Committee, made up of local community organisations, residents, the police and city council, is asking these questions in a community survey seeking your input on crime in the Manning Valley.
The committee has updated the Greater Taree Community Safety Plan which provides background on crime in our region and outlines a number of strategies to help reduce crime.
As part of the plan, council and Rotary have been investigating the installation of CCTV in the Taree CBD.
The project has progressed to a point where a series of camera locations have been nominated and Rotary has recently received a grant from the federal government CCTV installation.
Council and the community safety committee are seeking input and feedback on both the community safety plan and the CCTV proposal. In order to capture this community members are being asked to fill in an online survey.
Prior to taking the survey, community members may familiarise themselves with the community safety plan, fact sheets and maps at taree.cc/communitysafety.
In addition to the online resources, information stalls in various locations across the local government area will be set up so people can come and ask questions to find out more information.
Information stalls will be held from 10am - noon in following locations over the next two weeks:
o Harrington IGA on Thursday, October 2
o Old Bar Bilo on Tuesday, October 7
o Black Head Foodworks on Wednesday, October 8
o Wingham Coles on Thursday, October 9
o Taree Central Shopping Centre on Tuesday, October 14
o Victoria Street, Taree (near Centrelink) on Wednesday, October 15
