Running from Monday, September 1 to the end of February next year, the Vibrant Spaces trial is aimed at making the Taree central business district more vibrant with a boost of colour, some action and more people.
Shop owners are being invited to open up the streets to lively entertainment, comfortable seating, playful activities and eating choices to basically embrace the outdoors.
When placing anything on the footpath the shop owners will be talking with surrounding businesses to ensure their agreed options work well together.
To provide a safe and clear pathway, shop owners are being asked to consider all Manning Valley residents, from the youngest child to people with limited abilities and our oldest citizens.
Christopher Ross and Michael Griffith from council have enjoyed the opportunity to explore options with Taree business owners. They have been encouraged by the retail community's enthusiasm to see this trial succeed.
"We are moving quickly to get this project up and running, and are looking for an increase in innovative activity over the next six months," Michael said.
"So many shop owners have great ideas which we hope to see on the footpath soon."
