MANNING songwriter Katie Hardyman is celebrating news that six of her songs have progressed to the semi-finals of The UK Songwriting Contest.

"I'm so excited as it's an incredibly hard field to place in this year," she said.

"The contest is different this year with the promoters offering two sessions throughout the year. You have two opportunities to enter, session one and session two.

"At the end of both sessions, all semi finalists from session one and two are judged again to determine the finalists and winners."

Final results will be announced in November and all winners and finalists in The UK Songwriting Contest 2014 will be featured in an internationally streamed online awards show.

Katie entered six songs into various categories.

They were Snowflake featuring Laura Zarb in the Christmas songs category, It's not Goodbye featuring Laura Zarb and Matt Zarb in the Folk Acoustic, I'm Just A Child featuring Charlotte Reece in the Video and Song category ("I'm very excited about this one and it's our anti-bullying animation"), So Beautiful in the Love Song category and the Instrumental category and I'm Only Sleeping in the Open category ("I'm happy about this one too as this song is the reason I began songwriting").

Katie is hoping that if a song she is is working on with singer Rachael Beck is ready in time she will also enter it in the session two round of entries.

She attributes her success to the support of others, acknowledging her songs are the result of team effort.

"I am extremely grateful to Pete Stevenson from Turn Around Music, my producer, mentor and co-writer on So Beautiful for encouraging me every step of the way in this amazing, fun, interesting and at times lonely thing we call 'songwriting'.

"Huge thanks go out to all the musicians and artists who bring my songs to life. Without them I wouldn't have a song .

"My Mum is my biggest fan and I thank her for always believing in my work. She has been known at times to change a word here and there and add an extra something special to a song."

Katie also thanks her audience for all the lovely words of encouragement she receives every day.

The UK Songwriting Contest is one of the world's longest running and most popular international songwriting events.

It was launched in London in 2002 in association with prestigious bodies such as The BRIT Trust (of BRIT Awards fame), The BRIT Studio, The BRIT School, Music Aid UK and top british producers and industry professionals with the aim of discovering and encouraging new songwriting talent and promoting the craft of songwriting.

It is the only songwriting contest in the world that has had winning writers and finalists signed by top producers such as Simon Cowell and others, and it is the only songwriting event established in association with respected bodies such as The BRIT Trust and Music Aid International.

Judges include Grammy, Emmy, CMA and BRIT Award winning Gold and Platinum Album producers and artists, industry executives, publishers, managers, music organisations, experienced songwriters, past UKSC winners, UKSC directors, broadcasters, music journalists, authors and others from the UK and international music industry.
