Mayor Mick Tuck described the city as ‘absolutely jumping’ and the feedback from visitors as ‘extremely positive.’
Most of the motels had their no vacancy signs up.
Combing to bring about a huge boost to the local economy were Taree’s hosting of the NSW under 13 boys hockey championship, the inaugural Megabream Challenge organised by Australian Bass Tournaments and being chosen as one of a handful of locations across NSW for an inaugural Reserve Forces Day commemoration and march.
Added to that were the unprecedented success of the Home and Lifestyle Expo which attracted 12,000 people to Taree Showground, a model aero club day which brought visitors from Coffs Harbour to Sydney into Wingham, Circus Royale playing at Chatham, the changeover dinner of Taree RSL Toastmasters, a Hollywood-style fundraiser for the Kidney Foundation and the official opening of Taree Heritage Cottage in High Street.
Mayor Tuck, who attended many of the special events, said the pace of the weekend left him breathless but buoyed by the feedback he received.
The Times also covered the majority of the events photographically.
