Sooze and Dale are releasing the brand new 2014 Verdelho at the markets this Saturday. Only in their third commercial year of wine making, they had great success with a gold medal for last year’s vintage and reckon this one is even better.
Dale says the dry growing season we had was perfect for grapes. They harvested triple the weight of last year. Their wine maker Matt Burton has looked at the lab analysis and pronounced it perfect! This is great news for them and the consumer because it means that nothing has to be added or tinkered with – the wine is simply crushed, fermented and bottled. The Verdelho was bottled in late March, making it just ready to drink now. They are also experimenting with a Frizzante wine from the late pick which will be sweet and slightly sparkling. A Rosé will be ready later in May.
Sooze and Dale have been away from the markets for a few months because they sold out of last season’s produce. In the mean time they have been working hard on their property to improve the soils with mulch and lime, which no doubt helped to grow this year’s bumper crop. “If you get the basics right you will reap the rewards” says Dale.
