"We are determined to keep passenger air services sustainable for the Manning Valley community," mayor Paul Hogan said.
"When our sole passenger airline is already facing headwinds from record fuel costs and slowdowns in economic activity, council will not be adding to those challenges."
Rex's profits fell 45 per cent last financial year and another 60 per cent in the first half of the current one, with the airline stating last month that airport charges were "one of hundreds of costs we have to pass on to customers".
Council will forego an increase in passenger fees for the next year, with the hopes that the market improves for the airline.
"This measure is another way we show our commitment to economic and social development," Gerard Jos , council's general manager, said.
"Containing fee increases strengthens our partnership with Rex, so they may continue to be a viable transportation option for our region.
"Rex has demonstrated it is committed to regional Australia, and we need to acknowledge that by supporting the air service."
"Our entire community is thankful for the regular services of Regional Express in Taree," said the mayor.
"I enjoy seeing our beautiful Manning Valley from the air when flying to and from Sydney, and I appreciate the fine service Rex provides our community, as do many others."
Regional Express connects the Manning Valley and Great Lakes region with daily flights to Sydney and Grafton from Taree Airport.
