Saturday Competition
LAST Saturday 65 players competed in the March Taree Motorama Monthly Mug/MRD Electrical medals/Kangaroofing long drives. Best score on the day went to Matt Hardy whose 65 nett won by four shots, a very rare event in a Monthly Mug. Matt also of course won the B grade MRD Electrical medal. Other winners on the day were Neville Blanch with the A grade net and medal, Bob Yarnold the C grade net and medal on a countback and Matt Brislane won the B grade with net 70. Scratch winners were Rohan Abbott (A grade 78), Dave Elliott (B grade 87 on a countback) and Tony Lattimore (C grade with 97). The “Tubby’s Balls” putting competition went to Adrian Yeo with 27. The ball competition went out to net 77, so again the course was the winner. Trophy donors for Saturday were Ben and Daryl Heywood and we thank them for their support.
The nearest to the pins competition created some concern for some players with the difficult pin positions making life difficult for most players. However some great shots were played with the best on the day going to Brian Roberts on the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods hole. As a result Brian wins the Caddy’s restaurant “Shot of the Day”. Geoff Blanch also played a “beauty” to win the Bent on Food 9th/18th hole and also won the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th hole. Phil Jirman won the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th and Dave Elliott, after some intensive ‘coaching’ during the week, won the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th hole. The Kangaroofing Long Drive winners were Josh Meldrum (A grade), Matt Hardy (B grade) and Graham Henwood (C grade).
Wednesday Veterans
FIFTY two players played the monthly medal with Eric Shelmerdine winning the day on a countback with a 71 nett. Neville Bell was runner-up just in front of Graham Troth who claimed third, also on a countback. OBE (over bloody eighty) winner was Neville Hall with 75 nett. In the NTP competition Terry Morris won the 3rd/12th and Nev Bell did likewise on the 7th/16th with a great shot. Captain Bill Osborne won the second shot NTP on the 9th/18th. The putting competition was won by Barry Miles with 28 putts.
Wednesday Ambrose
ANOTHER good field of 65 players competed in the final ambrose for the next six months (when daylight saving recommences). Winners were the “Below Par” (Clare Cattell) team with a six under par 30. “Watto’s” (Jackson Mullen) was second, “Kids” (Nigel Latham) was third and “Hairy Wombats” (Duke Maloney) in fourth spot. The NTP on the third was taken out by Scott Dwyer, Blake Bird won the cooked chook and Damien Moore won the port.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
BEAUTIFUL sunshine Thursday resulted in twenty nine players enjoying the conditions. Scores reciprocated with 25 points the winning score. That came from Peter Wakeling with the runner-up going to Mark Fotheringham with 23 points. Third was Ken Squires with 22 beating playing partner Dave Andrews on a countback. Fifth was won by Craig Harrison with 21 points. Dallas Chapman won the NTP on the third hole as did Neil Evenden on the seventh hole. The winner of the March LJ Hooker umbrella was Dave Andrews by one shot from Rod Brown.
Friday Ladies
JAN Baker was the winner of the Friday Ladies this week with Jill Hampton runner-up followed by Janice Surtees, Jacky Robson, Pat Moseley and Narelle Smith. Pat Moseley also won the NTP and the best of the long markers was Shani Darby.
Coming Events
THIS week’s event is a two ball aggregate stableford sponsored by Glen and Jan Porter. Also a reminder that the Wingham Open Day is on this Sunday with only a few spots left in the morning. The 2014 Wingham Pennant players held a very successful barbecue last Sunday and the club would like to thank Wes and Tennille from Caddy’s for their sponsorship.
Good luck and good golfing.
