6pm Monday March 17: Essential Energy crews are continuing to restore supply to areas hit by yesterday afternoon’s wild storm, however around 2500 customers are expected to remain without power overnight.
Currently in the Upper Hunter and Mid North Coast there are around 3300 customers without power, down from more than 10,000 at the start of the day and 36,000 yesterday.
The majority of those are in the Dungog and Bulahdelah areas, which were hit particularly hard. Centres where power has not been fully restored include Clarencetown and North Arm Cove. There are also pockets of customers outside Taree and Wingham awaiting power restoration.
Essential Energy regional manager, Brendon Neyland, said power was being progressively restored, but with multiple faults on some of the high voltage lines in rural areas, it was a slow process.
