WITH last week washed out the February Taree Motorama Monthly Mug/MRD Electrical Medals/Kangaroofing long drives were held in conjunction with the Wingham Valley Vets single stableford trophy. Despite both events being open to all players (meaning one player could win both), the unexpected happened and a visitor from Harden Golf Club, Bradley Coleman was the star performer shooting an incredible 61 nett. However as a visitor he cannot win a major trophy so he took home the Wingham Valley Vets prize, not the mug or medals. Of the locals Neville Boyd was the main benefactor winning the Taree Motorama Mug and the C grade MRD Medal. Brad Coleman then won the C grade net prize. In A grade Jason Fowles won the net and MRD medal and David Blair did likewise in B grade. In the scratch event, Ben Marron won A grade with a two over par 74, Greg Foy B grade with 85 and Graham Henwood won C grade with 95. Balls went out 76 on a countback, Craig Harrison the last winner.

Kangaroofing long drives were also held Saturday, with the A grade a no result as a previous monthly winner put his name down (you cannot win more than one per year), B grade went to Damien Keen and C grade was won by Phil Hanlen. The A grade will be run more than likely this Saturday. In the nearest to the pins competition, Mark Fotheringham made a return to Saturday golf by winning the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th. Dave Andrews also hit one reasonably close to win the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th, Craig Harrison did likewise on the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th and Bill Osborne won the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods prize. Last but not least Ben Marron hit one really close on the 9th/18th winning both the Bent on Food voucher and the Caddies Restaurant "shot of the day" for his efforts. In the "Tubbies balls" putting competition, the winner was Rod brown with 26 putts.
In the other major event Saturday, the Wingham Valley Vets single stableford, visitor Brad Coleman won with an incredible 47 points, losing seven shots in the process, the runner-up prize going to local Graham Troth with a modest 38 points.
FORTY seven starters last Wednesday played for the Monthly Medal and putting competition with scoring difficult for the "old fellows." Best on the day was Robert Allan with 71 nett, clear winner by three shots from John Daly. Brian Haynes was third with 75 nett. In the nearest to the pins, Cec Pedron won the 3rd/12th, Richard Lucas the 7th/16th and Adrian Yeo the 9th/18th. John Daly also won the putting competition with 29 putts.
A GREAT field of 67 players turned out in fine conditions Wednesday and again scoring proved difficult. Best scratch score on the day was a mere four under par. Best net score however and therefore winners on the day went to "Wattos" captained by Marty Reading. They won by just under a shot from "Beatties" (Jack Beattie) with "Happy Campers" (Antony Urquhart) third and "Below Par" (Mone Vilayrack) fourth. Nearest to the pin on the seventh went to Marty Reading, Mel Egan won the port (again) and Reid Brown won the cooked chook.
DESPITE rain threatening most of the day, a field of 27 golfers managed to get a game in. Graham Steel had a rare good day winning with a modest 21 points from a trio of players on 20 points. Of these Craig Harrison was second, Rod Brown third and an unlucky Dave Andrews (he managed to three putt the last to cost him the day) ended up with fourth spot. Nearest to the pins went to Craig Harrison on the third and Rod Brown on the seventh.
PAT Whiteley had a good day Friday winning the event from a host of other good scores. Of these Ruth Woodward was second followed by Cheryl Andres, Beth Braham, Jenny Homewood, Jacky Robson, Judy Periera and Dot Clarke. Cheryl Andrews also won the nearest to the pin and Denise Green was the best of the long markers.
ONLY two results to report this week with division three losing five to one, Terry Grant the sole winner, and division four also going down, four games to two.
THIS Saturday's event is a popular Irish Fourball event with a singles in conjunction. Good luck and good golfing.
