Client services officer for Great Lakes Manning Community Options Projects, Kim Lawrence, had contacted Rotary Club of Taree to ask for assistance in teaching Glen King from Valley Skills these skills and Rotarian Peter Dahdah volunteered to assist.
After some weeks and about 20 hours of tuition Peter and Kim brought Glen along with his grandmother Marion to Rotary to tell the Rotarians of their experiences on the road.
Valley Skills is a division of Valley Industries and is located in Elizabeth Avenue in the old Hot Tuna building.
The program encourages young people with disabilities to participate in arts and craft based programs, community access programs and communication and social skills.
Peter and Glen have built up an attachment for each other over this training period, which was evident on the night.
Kim spoke of the work of Great Lakes Manning Community Options program and how it benefits disabled people in our area.
Glen enjoyed meeting some Rotarians and displaying his driving ability in his wheelchair.
