THE birth of a new leg-spinner was one of the highlights of the under 10 Wingham cricket side on Saturday, as they came up against the highly fancied Chatham-Cundletown at Cundletown oval. Batting first, Wingham lost only two wickets which led them to an upset victory. All batters contributed in a great team-display with none better than Georgia Lane, Lachlan Brown and Nathan Smith. Morgan Saxby did a great pull shot for four, while his brother Oliver was not outdone scoring one from a beautiful square drive. Callum Taylor was again rock solid with balls whizzing past his head towards the stumps, and Calum McKinnon ran well between the wickets. Bowling in the heat second was an effort, but a great leg-spinners wicket from Jackson Smith lifted us, with Nathan's wicket and a run out were the rewards. Ethan Lane bowled without luck, his sister Kyra the same, and Lucas Payne continues to improve with every game. A break now until February .

LAUDERS Real Estate U12 cricketers played Old Bar on Saturday morning in a one day game at the Wingham Sporting Complex. Wingham won the toss and elected to bat. The Old Bar team bowled and fielded very well and managed to bowl the boys out for 61 runs in 24 overs. Sundries top scored with 19 runs and unfortunately for Wingham, no batsmen made it to double figures. But, there were definitely signs of improved batting from several players. When Wingham took to the field, with only a small total in the book, they attacked from the first ball. This was easily their best performance in the field this season. Wicket takers were, the every improving Hamish Lee with 2/7 (just missed a hat trick), Danny Bisby is consistently landing his leg breaks and troubling all batsmen with 1/3, Daniel Pereira 1/5, Hayden Essery 1/5, Clancy Johnston 1/12, James Creighton 1/14 and Nathan Gutterson 1/16. All 12 bowlers performed very well, and with the exceptional fielding, made the run chase difficult for Old Bar. Old Bar managed to pass the required 61 runs but before they had reached 70 runs they had lost eight wickets. Congratulations to both teams on a very close and well played game.

WINGHAM U16s v Chatham/Cundle at Rec 3, day two
Wingham started confidently. Openers Ryan Morris and Reid Brown got off to a good start before Reid was out for none in the fourth over. At 1/13 Mitchell Niven joined Ryan and together they pushed the score to 47 before Niven was caught for 16. Ryan was joined by Jesse Newman and they took the score to 96 before Jesse was bowled for 31 runs. The drinks breaks again got wickets with Morris on 39 being bowled not long after with the score on 96. Corey Armstrong batting with Brendan Fuller took the score to 112 and with Fuller out for nine, another wicket to Cundle. Corey was now joined by Fletcher Lewis and they got the score to 122 before Corey on 12 was out in the 29th over. At now 6/122 Ryan Poulton and Fletch took the score to 133 before Poulton was bowled for five. Josh Essery and Fletch both made quick runs and at the 34th over and drinks break were feeling confident about chasing down the runs. First ball after drinks, a ball popped up and Fletch was caught for a well made 18. Josh was joined by Cooper Lewis and with the score at 160, Cooper on two was bowled. The last batsman Shane Manny didn't trouble the scorers so at the 37th over Wingham were all out for 160 with Josh not out on 11. They fell short by 55 runs.
