Lionel received the most compassionate care imaginable in the last 24 hours of his life, according to his daughter Penny.
The $25,000 grant will be used to fund an annual $5,000 education and training award, to be given to an outstanding palliative care nurse. The award program will run for five years.
Lionel's daughter Penny, who is also a nurse, presented this year's award to enrolled nurse Christina Cowan.
"It is a pleasure to present this award in remembrance of the exceptional care given to my father by the palliative care team and also the community care team," Penny said.
Christina has been a palliative care nurse for several years and was overwhelmed to receive the award.
"It's really for all the nurses on level six. What we do is a team effort. It's a very caring team," Christina said.
