He will be one of the many artists taking part in the forthcoming variety concert ‘Spotlight on Taree Arts Council’.
George will open the concert with a medley of well-known Broadway belters - Lullaby of Broadway, Give My Regards to Broadway and There’s No Business Like Show Business. He will also be singing the poignant I Won’t Send Roses from Mack and Mabel.
“I’m thrilled to part of this concert as I owe the Taree Arts Council such a great debt.
“Almost 40 years ago I performed my first theatrical role, The Wizard, in TAC’s production of The Wizard of Oz, before heading off for the bright lights of Sydney,” George said.
George studied acting and singing at the Ensemble Drama Studios and spent the 1980s and ‘90s performing professionally in and around Sydney.
He co-ordinated and performed in numerous concerts, his own one man shows and was also the administrator of New Theatre, Newtown for many years.
He returned to the Manning in 2000, planted a garden and became heavily involved with all aspects of community life.
He re-joined the Taree Arts Council and in 2006 gave a memorable performance as the male lead, Emile de Becque in South Pacific and the following year portrayed Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie’s The Hollow.
He is regularly invited to compare and perform at events such as the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival, The annual Taree and District Eisteddfod grand concert, Manning Support Services AGM, Killabakh Balls and Christmas Celebrations, Storm Village and more.
The Spotlight on Taree Arts Council variety concert is on Tuesday February 21 at 11am and Saturday February 25 at 7.30pm at St Mary's Hall in Taree.
It features performances by many talented members associated with Taree Arts Council over the years.
Light refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $20 or $15 concession and are available through Bass'n'Blues in Albert Street, Taree.
