BRAINSTORMING, charts, dot points and discussion. This week ideas about the future of Manning Hospital were bounced around with staff and an entourage from Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD).
About 40 people filed into Manning Hospital Staff Centre at 10am on Monday to hear what HNELHD planner, Louise Evans had to say about the future of the hospital and the proposed stage one redevelopment.
Manning Health Committee Chair Don Macinnis OAM was one of the men in the mix at the meeting and he described the meeting as a positive step.
"It looks like something may actually happen, it's called the Manning Hospital Services Restart Project," Mr Macinnis said.
"I think we are a long way from breaking ground and it looks like it will be services before buildings but it's a good start."
Manning Hospital acting general manager, Jodi Nieass confirmed the meeting occurred on Monday.
"A commitment of $20 million has been made for the first stage of a redevelopment of Manning Hospital," Mrs Nieass said.
"The next step in planning for stage one was to convene a reference group consisting of staff and community members. This group participated in an initial workshop, co-ordinated by the HNE Health Planning team at Manning Hospital."
