The events feature the unveiling of the Centenary of Anzac Photographic Exhibition and the launch of the Centenary of Anzac locally produced book entitled, ‘What Anzac Means To Me - Memories of the Past, Visions for the future.’
Many volunteer hours of hard work (was) generously contributed by so many people over a long period of time
- Anzac events co-ordinator and project manager Mave Richardson
This will be followed by a concert of music and songs from World War I and World War II days produced by well-known local identity George Hoad. It includes performances by George, Pam Phillips and Jacqui Roetman, with Pam Archer on piano.
This is a ‘one off’ day of community tribute to the Anzac legacy. It is sure to be something special for all age groups.
The event concludes with afternoon tea and the opportunity to buy copies of the souvenir Exhibition Guide and the brand new Anzac book. Because both projects were completed prior to the dissolution of the former Greater Taree City Council on May 12 this year, all copies feature that council`s logo. They may well become valuable collectables in the future.
Anzac projects manager and event co-ordinator Mave Richardson is enthusiastic about the day.
“The pride and goodwill generated by these projects is a clear reflection of the many volunteer hours of hard work generously contributed by so many people over a long period of time,” she said.
The exhibition and the book were funded by the Australian government`s Centenary of Anzac Local Grants Program and supported by the former Greater Taree City Council and MidCoast Water.
The Manning Valley Historical Society and the Wingham RSL Sub-branch worked together to complete the projects.
It is anticipated that as well as local support, there will be a number of special guests visiting Wingham for this big event.
Seating is limited so buy your tickets in advance at the Wingham Museum - $10 per person, free admission for children under 12 years.
The Anzac Commemorative Events in Wingham are part of the 2016 Manning Winter Festival which runs from June 3 until June 13.
Festival programs are available at local libraries, tourist information centres, the Wingham Chronicle and Manning River Times offices and the Wingham Museum.
In another role as president of the Manning Winter Festival Committee, Mave Richardson encourages everyone to check out the program.
“You will be surprised at the diversity of talent across the Manning,” she said. For program details visit the website: www.manningwinterfestival.weebly.com
As part of the festival, the Envirofair will be held at Taree Park on Saturday, June 11, featuring workshops, demonstrations, entertainment and stalls.
