The good news is that there are some things we can do to really lighten the load.
Here are some changes that will help simplify your home management:
Go easy on yourself
The first step is to cut off the negative self-talk and cut yourself some slack. Change the story you tell yourself from "I'm so stressed, there's so much to do'' to "I got this.
I am making positive changes to simplify my life". Believe it or not, changing our language can also change how we feel about our circumstances. You are doing great.
Write it down
Take a little time out to write down how you spend your time each day. It's important to know where your time is going, especially if you feel like you have ''no time".
It's also good to check your phone usage to see what apps (social media) you're spending the most time on.
Non-essential tasks
We're all guilty of giving social media too much of our precious time, but when the to-do list becomes overwhelming this is usually the first place we can gain more time.
Look at other tasks you may be able to reduce or eliminate - is there an activity that you can stop attending? Could you switch your shopping to online delivery or click and collect?
Outsource help
I believe we were never made to do it all. Things get done much quicker (and better) when we get help.
That could mean having a fortnightly cleaner if you can, or maybe joining forces with friends to take turns when it comes to drop-offs and pick-ups.
Time is our most valuable resource, so it's important that we prioritise it for the important things only we can do - including self-care.
Get a family calendar
This is such a simple and effective way of keeping track of activities, appointments and birthday parties and means everyone has transparency.
Keep your calendar in a place everyone can see. Take a moment each week to keep it updated and plan for the days ahead.
Organise your home
Simplifying and organising go hand in hand. It's important not to get overwhelmed and remind yourself of the first point - go easy on yourself.
Organising your home is a gradual process and I encourage you to focus on one category at a time.
Even having one space organised makes a huge difference.
