The session was held at the Taree Recreation Ground nets and was for the under 12, 14 and 16 teams.
Manning junior cricket will be underway from Saturday.
Matches usually start mid-October, but this year has been delayed by a State government ban on community sport. The ban was lifted last week.
Junior cricket spokesman, Matt Kennewell, said it was unlikely the season would be extended to make-up for the lost matches.
"We'd like to, but we also have to think about other sports starting up for winter,'' he said.
He expects there will be a slight reduction in team numbers.
"But with what's going on in the last six months that's understandable,'' Matt said.
