The 20-year-old from Tinonee is the current leader, half a point clear of his nearest rivals.

There's been no racing since May due to complications caused by COVID-19 lockdowns and border closures.

There were hopes a round would be added to the program for the Bathurst 1000, a six day extravaganza of motor racing to be held from November 30 to December 5. However, Garland and co won't be racing at Bathurst.

"They don't want us,'' he said.

"I spoke to the category manager recently and he's putting the feelers out for us to race in Adelaide in December. That's the last opportunity we'll have this year.''

Logistically Garland thinks it unlikely the series will be heading to South Australia.

"The majority of the field comes from Queensland and they'll have to go into quarantine when they return from Adelaide,'' he pointed out.

If there's no more racing possible this year Garland believes he has done enough to be awarded the championship.

"We've raced 60 per cent of the season,'' he maintained.

Three rounds were conducted before the series was suspended. Initially the championship was to be run over six rounds, but it was then cut back to five.

A former champion go kart driver, Garland is in his second Aussie Cars season after making his debut in 2019, where he finished eighth overall and was named the rookie of the year. There was no racing in 2020.

He opened this season with a win at Mt Panorama in February and followed this with a second placing in Tasmania in April. Garland then grabbed another win at Eastern Creek in the third round in May.

He said the third round was cut from four races to one due to varying reasons, including thick fog, and points were halved. Garland qualified in fourth place but grabbed the lead in the second last lap.

Garland hasn't yet announced where he'll be racing in 2022. He wants 2021 sorted first.
