Earlier this year, the Roosters, NSW State of Origin and Australian Test captain, and former Old Bar Pirate, announced his retirement from rugby league.
After the announcement, Boyd relocated with the NRL to Queensland to see out the remainder of the season with the Roosters team, which he told the Manning River Times was the best thing he could have done for the transition period into retirement.
"I was still around the boys and still around footy. If I was at home I would have been a mess really," Boyd said.
"If you could ask for the best transition for a retired player to ease off - it would have been that."
Boyd will take his time to return to Sydney, and says he plans to spend a couple of weeks at his dad's (Chris 'Spud' Cordner) house in Wallabi Point to catch up with family.
Whether it be coaching or in a leadership role, Boyd plans to still be involved with the Roosters club post-retirement, he said.
"I will be in and around the club, whether it be a bit of coaching or some leadership stuff. I just don't know what that looks like yet but I am taking my time to enjoy retirement a bit too."
