The exhibition officially commenced on Tuesday, September 14 and after the prize was judged virtually and the winner announced online.
The gallery was among the organisations to have restrictions lifted when the MidCoast local government area (LGA) came out of lockdown just after midnight last Friday September 10.
The current exhibitions include the biennial art prize 'Naked and Nude Art Prize 2021' and Helga Visser 'Observations - now and then.'
For the first time in the 30 year history of the Naked and Nude Art Prize, the judging took place remotely and the winner, Sydney based artist Loribelle Spirovski was announced online on Saturday, August 28.
"Due to these current public health orders it was impossible to bring the judge, (Sydney-based) Wendy Sharpe to our regional area," gallery director, Rachel Piercy said in the lead up to the announcement.
"Regardless of all these restrictions we are so glad we can continue to support our creative community and will continue to promote the show to both our local community and digitally through our website and social media channels," Rachel said.
The show boasts eight Mid Coast regional artists among the 60 finalists:
- Robbie Crane
- Gemma Lee Cross
- Jo Ernst
- Freyja Moon
- Nathan Paddison
- Alice Palmer
- Richard Reynolds
- Gwen Roberts
The gallery will open with new hours from Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
An exhibition celebration is being planned for the last weekend of the show (October 9), with updates to follow depending on the public health orders.
"To continue to keep our community safe, please remember to check in, practise social distancing, wear a mask and sanitise when you visit the gallery, and follow the NSW Health Guidelines," the galley said.
The biennial Naked and Nude Art Prize, previously the Manning Art Prize, commenced in 1990 and is a partnership between the Manning Regional Art Gallery and its Friends group.
Now 31 years on, the prize is a prestigious national event on the Australian arts calendar, open to artists in a variety of mediums. This year the prize pool is $31,000.
The winning entry is acquired by the Friends, and donated to the MidCoast Council's permanent collection.
