The government's decision not to re-open the LGA was based primarily on advice from Hunter New England Health and the apparent risk associated with a positive COVID-19 case in Booral.

Mr Bromhead said the situation would be reviewed in a week.

"I have been advocating for us to come out of lockdown and lobbying senior figures on the matter due to there being zero community transmission of covid in our region," Mr Bromhead said.

"I am painfully aware of the detrimental impact for the economy and mental health of our constituents that the lockdown extension will have.

"This is on top of surpassing drought, bushfires, floods and COVID-19."

Mr Bromhead said he would continue to advocate for the community, especially as the LGA had had zero community transmission.

"In the meantime, I urge everyone to get vaccinated, stay strong, we will get through this."

The news is yet another bitter blow for the community, which believed the LGA would likely get the green light to re-open tomorrow at midnight.

The ABC reported last night, Wednesday, September 8 both the Mid North Coast and North Coast regions could re-open

However, there was no mention of what local government areas (LGA) would be included.
