The idea of a peanut shaped roundabout, put forward in the renamed Wingham CBD Streetscape Concept Plan (previously named the Wingham CBD Masterplan), has been discarded, and MidCoast Council is to move forward with the offset T intersection that was the other choice in the plan.
The intersection is in council's Capital Works Program to be delivered in the current financial year and will be one of the first things in the plan to go ahead.
The intersection is just one of the changes to be made to the Concept Plan.
MidCoast Council has taken note of community feedback the plan, with councillors voting unanimously at council's ordinary meeting on Wednesday, July 28 to update the plan to reflect the feedback and endorse the plan.
While the original Masterplan was on exhibition, many community members interpreted the plan to be the final design detail plan, and not a concept plan as it was, with two petitions being submitted as a result.
The submission period for commenting has closed, and 27 submissions were received by council. In addition, more than 100 people took part in online surveys.
Other changes recommended to be made to the plan are to be developed in consultation with key stakeholders to provide direction. These are:
Central Park wall - remove the plan for planned brick tiers and retain the existing concrete wall and existing vegetation. Consider flared stairs at the Bent/Isabella Streets entrance, in heritage style.
Heritage - all design elements should be sympathetic to Wingham's heritage character, including light fittings.
Parking - investigate trialling two hour parking limits in Isabella Street between Bent and Primrose Streets. Monitor parking with a view to possibly expand all day parking on council-owned land on Worthing Lane and around the fringe of the CBD.

Street Trees - further discussions with key stakeholders about the alternative species of black booyong or red cedar, with objective to balance suitability - robustness, cost, availability, size, coverage, fruit and other relevant details.
Footpath Style - construct test panels for consideration of key stakeholders.
Rotary Clock - there were never any plans to remove the clock. It will be retained and enhanced by streetscaping.
Coloured road surfaces at intersections - coloured road surfaces will not be used. Council is to investigate alternatives that delineate the intersection with heritage style in mind.
The results of the detailed design for streetscaping and issues that may be further identified will be reported to MidCoast Council in a future meeting.
