ArtWalk has grown to become the signature cultural arts event in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region and the 2021 program is set to delight locals with exhibitions, illuminations, live performances, artist markets, workshops and creative installations at over 60 sites throughout the CBD.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's group manager of economic and cultural development Liesa Davies said the event will be a great chance to experience the town through a cultural lens.
"Returning for its sixth year in 2021, ArtWalk has grown to become the signature cultural arts event in the Port Macquarie Hastings region," she said.
"The event inspires our community to connect with local artists, musicians and local cultural organisations, CBD businesses and venues."
The event will be returning to Port Macquarie for the October long weekend, starting on Friday, October 1 and running until Monday, October 4.
"As a free event, it's a great opportunity to enjoy a night out and see your home through a different lens. It's accessible, there's something for everyone, and it's set to all come together for the October long weekend," Ms Davies said.
Following the same format as last year's event, ArtWalk will be delivered in a COVID-friendly way this year.
"We're committed to supporting the safe return of events in our region as they bring our people together, encourage economic activity, and act as a major drawcard for both locals and visitors," Ms Davies said.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said support from the NSW Government's Regional Events Acceleration Fund will enable a bigger ArtWalk program for this year's event.
"It is fantastic to see a bigger festival format and the opportunity to showcase the regional city of Port Macquarie's vibrant arts, talented performers and thriving Indigenous culture that will bring in very welcome tourism dollars to local businesses," she said.
"ArtWalk is also creating a regional legacy of arts and culture for local artists and emerging talent that will continue to enliven and enrich Port Macquarie and encourage the many thousands of extra visitors to stay longer and spend more."
Ms Davies said the event is set to put a spotlight on local artists and creators.
"ArtWalk has certainly increased our community's appetite for more cultural activities, so we're really looking forward to delivering an illuminating experience," she said.
