The 500-seat theatre has a long history of attracting first class performers and shows, and annually hosts the Taree and District Eisteddfod and local theatre productions from Taree Arts Council.
Work has started on a new theatre at the MEC. Designed by architects Austin McFarland, this will be a multi-purpose space with state-of-the art facilities featuring retractable seating for up to 150 patrons. There'll be a versatile rigging system to accommodate many different types of shows, cinema projection equipment and audio gear.
Rod Illidge from committee of the MEC said this space will be perfect for smaller and more intimate productions. It will also facilitate masterclasses and workshops, so the number of in-house events will increase markedly.
