Greg's article is spot on. I had a lot to do with the Hoy family. Moore and Mary Hoy were like adopted grandparents.
Listening and having Moore write down articles of yesteryear, which I have written down, when the Hoys settled in Black Head I was led to believe it was named after where they originated from in Ireland.
When I asked him why they had changed the name to Hallidays Point his reply was it was decided at a meeting of four or five people to change it to Hallidays Point to lessen the confusion of another Black Head.
No, it was not named after a Dr Halliday as some people have said.
One of the people at the meeting suggested Hallidays Point and it was accepted.
Moore could not remember why that was suggested but it may have been what Greg Crisp wrote.
Moore also wrote that the parrot on the Arnotts biscuit tin was painted by Arnold Webber, the teacher at Failford School.
