Brown, the now retired hoop who won two Melbourne Cups, was a guest speaker at the cup calcutta held at the Wingham Services Club on Sunday night.
He donated two signed photos of his cup wins on Shocking in 2009 and Rekindling in 2017, and they were auctioned during the function. They attracted some frenzied bidding and the Tigers will now pocket more than $1000 through Brown's largesse.
Brown and former top Mid North Coast jockey Shane Arnold were the guest speakers at the turnout which attracted a fairly good crowd, considering it was held on a Sunday night.
Brown also attended Monday's Wingham Cup meeting, where the final event on the program was the Corey Brown Cup. (See Doug Ryan's review on page 22).
Brown confirmed he won't ride again as a result of injuries he sustained in a fall in the Queensland Derby in 2019. At the moment he's in no great hurry to decide what he'll do in the future.
"I'm enjoying being a grandfather,'' he said.
It's a safe bet he'll end up involved in the media in some capacity.
Wingham Services Club chairman Harry Rider was chuffed with the success of the calcutta and revealed he hopes to have another two ex-hoops as guest speakers next year.
He's hoping to secure former jockey and now trainer Neil Campton, who hails from Wherrol Flat. Graham 'GJ' Coleman will almost certainly be the other speaker.
