The MidCoast Renewal Committee is bringing UP&UP to Wingham for the one-day workshop where they will engage with children, young people and adults to help bring their stories and ideas to life.
UP&UP is a non-profit organisation that specialises in connecting with local communities, who have faced challenges like ours, with art, to learn more about their identity, their presence and what drives them.
During this workshop they encourage participants to collaborate with them to create mini-murals that share their stories as well as giving them new skills in the graffiti art form.
The UP&UP team then take the ideas from the day of the workshop to help them create a final design for the large mural, which they then return to our community to paint.
The MidCoast Renewal Committee is also seeking a public space for the final mural to be painted onto. The size of the space needed is approximately five metres x two metres and needs to be flat. All prepping and painting of the space will be completed by UP&UP using high quality materials.
"We feel that the mural would be an asset to our community and local businesses by helping residents to take pride in their identity as well as giving tourists an insight into what makes our community thrive. Professional murals like these also help to prevent graffiti vandalism," MidCoast Renewal Committee's Taycee-Lea Jones said.
"We believe this will be a positive project for everyone involved because it helps give residents a sense of ownership of a public artwork in their local space.
"Please get in touch with us if you would be interested in donating a space where this mural could be painted and enjoyed by our local community."
To RSVP for the workshop, or If you have a space that could be used for the mural, contact Taycee on 0478 769173.
