The Times understands Bourkes Transport Industries will cease its mainstream freight deliveries in the coming days after its contracting tender was not renewed.
This brings to an end a service provided on the east coast of Australia for more than 70 years.
The Taree office, on Grey Gum Road, will remain operational for the next few months for delivery of Australian Community Media publications such as the Manning River Times and the Newcastle Herald
The company was unable to provide further comment or information to the Times.
The family operated business was founded in 1945 by Eddie Bourke.
Over the years, it grew to become one of Australia's primal companies to transport time-sensitive print material.
In the mid-1990s, the company introduced fleet repair and maintenance and founded KWB Repairs.
In more recent years, Bourkes was a finalist for transport and small business work health and safety awards.
