Congratulations to all students who took part in the cross country and had a go even if they didn't come home as the winner.
The 2021 Zone event held on May 5 held at Wingham Sporting Complex included 24 Tinonee PS students with some great results being achieved with Luca finishing 4th, Tahlia gaining a 6th Maggie an 8th, Michael 12th and Preston a 22nd - well done to all.
The team looked very impressive in their new design sports shirts. All are looking forward to good weather for Friday May 21 when the School Athletics Carnival will be held on the Bob Collier Oval at Tinonee Recreation Ground.
It is planned to again operate a canteen on the day and a call out is on for help from parents to assist by manning or if unable donations of cakes and slices etc.
Friday May 14 will be Walk Safely to School Day and this is important to all to do so.
Don't forget to wear the Tinonee School's Winter Uniform on Thursday May 20 as it is the day the school photos will be taken.
Great news - now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased, volunteers are now allowed in the school classrooms with special requirements needed - if you would be able to assist please contact the school for further details.
Mother's Day celebrations
I hope all mothers enjoyed their special day on Sunday despite the rainy conditions. I didn't go anywhere but did enjoy receiving long distance phone calls during the morning from daughter Fiona and son Andrew, who both live in Queensland.
Tinonee Hall news
The Flood Disaster Recovery assistance that was being offered by Members of the Hall Committee set up in the Tinonee Hall from end of March has now ceased and grateful thanks go out to everyone who donated items which were in turn donated to those folk who had suffered during the devastating floods which hit the Manning region.
The monthly meeting of the Hall was held last evening and I will have a report on it next week.
Convict bonnets exhibition
I managed to see the Convict Bonnets Exhibition and visual presentation which was held at Club Taree on Thursday morning May 7 in conjunction with the Club's Embroidery Group.
Didn't make it in time for the morning tea but thoroughly enjoyed the visual presentation which told of its formation and purpose.
The group was established by Dr Christina Henri as a memorial to the 25,566 female convicts transported to Australia between 1788-1853 and now has groups across Australia called "Roses of the Heart".
Bonnets are made in the style which were worn by the 25,566 female convicts and are embroidered with their name, maybe the ship they were transported on and maybe some flowers.
