Jordan Treloar was nominated for his leadership skills displayed at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, where he is completing honours in sports journalism.
About 400 people attended the award ceremony at Doltone House (Darling Island) in late April. It was hosted by 7NEWS presenter Michael Usher while NSW Families and Communities Minister Gareth Ward handled the awards presentation.

"It was pretty special," Jordan said of the ceremony.
"There's a lot of hope for the future given all the amazing young people we have just in NSW and the ACT alone.
"It was a great night out on the town to celebrate all these achievements."
The leadership award went to Maddison O'Gradey-Lee of Bateau Bay while Tara Jane Sargent, of Earlwood, was named young achiever of the year.
Jordan has been on the university campus' student representative council since 2017 and is the secretary for the student senate.
The 21-year-old is also a residential tutor.
"While I enjoy studying I like to help everyone around me," Jordan said.
He is also in the midst of training to become a fully qualified member of the State Emergency Service.
The training and his time on campus was put on hold at the height of the global pandemic. During this time, Jordan returned to Taree.
As part of his honours course, the self professed 'car nut' is researching the impact Holden had on Australia.
He's certainly in the right place, with Bathurst home to Australia's most famous race track, Mount Panorama, and the National Motor Racing Museum.
Through internship programs, Jordan spent time with Bathurst based Australian Community Media publication Western Advocate.
He hopes to pursue a career in print journalism.
"Print writing is my aspiration, I love putting pen to paper," he said.
