This service is usually a moving and memorable one and RSL sub-branch members join the church congregation to mark the day - all welcome remembering COVID restrictions will apply.
Wingham RSL Sub-branch members will also be visiting Estia Place, Taree and Wingham Court on Friday, April 23 where a short Anzac service will be conducted for the benefit of the residents.
The Sunset Service to mark the service of a departed serviceman this year will honour the late Curley Wamsley and will take place Saturday, April 24 commencing at 4.30pm at Wingham Presbyterian Church on the corner of Moon Street and Gloucester Road. I have attended the past four services which have been held at Wingham Cemetery and have learnt so much about those who served their country with distinction and pride but this year there is a change as Curley's ashes are interred in the Columbarium Wall at the Presbyterian Church grounds.
This service will be followed the following morning, Sunday April 25, by the moving Dawn Service commencing at 5.15am when participants will line up in Queen Street and march the short distance to Wingham Town Hall.
The main Anzac Day service will begin at 9.15am when those wishing to march will gather in front of Wingham Services Club in Bent Street. From thence they will march up Farquhar Street, to Wingham Town Hall.
COVID restrictions will be in force at both the dawn service and main march and the sub-branch would appreciate the assistance and understanding from marchers and on-lookers when registering at these events.
A number of Anzac Day QR codes will be available for marchers and the public to self-register. Official COVID marshalls will also be circulating to hand register those who require assistance.
