Last week John and I enjoyed a short visit from friend Graeme Geary, a former resident of Tinonee who now lives north of the border in Queensland. Graeme and wife Judy had been enjoying a few days catching up with family members and friends down this way.
Tinonee Hall meeting
The April monthly meeting of Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall was held on Tuesday night (April 13). It had been planned to hold a market day on Saturday, May 1 but this has now been put on hold.
The Flying Fox Pre-school which operates on a Tuesday out of the hall is currently on holidays and will be re-commencing again on Tuesday, April 20 from 8.30am through to 3.30pm approximately. If there are any parents who are interested in sending their pre-schoolers, contact the ladies at the hall when they return.
Friendship group
Members of Tinonee Friendship Group held their meeting on Wednesday, April 7. They had intended visiting the museum but this had been put on hold due to the damp weather.
Anyone over 55 is welcome to join, for further details contact Judy Cluss on 6553 1450 if interested.
Museum news
Tinonee Historical Society will be holding their combined March/April meeting on Thursday, April 22 at 7pm.
The museum has been enjoying a few visitors during the school holidays with a number of them have been looking for family history.
Old ferry wharf damaged
Speaking of history I took the opportunity last Saturday to inspect the damage caused by the recent flooding, to the old concrete and rock ferry wharf at the bottom of Punt Hill Road which has been a favourite fishing spot for youngsters and oldies alike.
It has held up for many years but in this latest flood couldn't stand up to the devastation caused when the house, that was washed down from Mondrook, crashed into it.
It is to be hoped that there will be repairs done to this noted landmark. Thankfully the ramp which was added during the 1990s is still there allowing boaties to launch their boats.
Anzac Day church service
Wingham's Uniting Church in Farquahar Street will be the venue for the Anzac Church Service this coming Sunday April 18 commencing at 9am.
I have attended this service in the past and it is very moving. Wingham RSL Sub-branch members will be involved and all are looking forward to participating in the Dawn Service and the Main March come Sunday, April 25.
Let us hope the weather will be kind to all those participating in the various services throughout the district - Tinonee Public School students will be marching at the main Taree service.
Busker muster
Congratulations to the organisers of Wingham's Busker Muster which was held Saturday last and drew large crowds to the shopping precincts in Isabella and Bent Streets. I enjoyed several of the groups and was so pleased they were blessed with fine weather. Hopefully it can be held again later in the year or as an annual event.
