The cup will carry $9500 in prizemoney, with $7000 going to the winner. This will be over 314 metres. Heats were run at last Saturday's meeting. Twelve races are up for decision today, starting at 12.17pm. Other feature events include the Australian Hotel Gold Maiden Final ($5400), the Taree GOBTA 1-3 Wins Final ($4750) and the Royal Hotel Silver Bullet Final ($5400).
"This is the most prizemoney we've ever had on offer at one meeting,'' greyhound club president Des McGeachie said.
He said a strong field will contest the cup final, where local kennels will take on visitors from the Newcastle Hunter area.
"A couple of the local dogs ran faster times than the more fancied visitors in the heats on Saturday,'' he said.
However, he believes Hunter visitor Ice Reina, trained by Blake Moroney, will be the one to beat.
"If he gets a good start and leads to the first turn he'll win,'' Mr McGeachie predicted.
Today will be the culmination of the three meeting Easter Carnival that started on Wednesday March 31 and continued last Saturday morning. Mr McGeachie said nominations for all three meetings have been excellent.
