A small gathering of around 30 people celebrated 100 years of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in Wingham's Central Park on Wednesday morning, March 31.

Organiser Tony Ryan, an ex RAAF member, was very pleased with the turnout.
"I felt very satisfied with it. It was never intended to be a large gathering, particularly in view of COVID restrictions which we're all subject to. However, I was more than happy with the number of people who attended," Tony said.
Three flags - the RSL banner, the RAAF ensign and the national flag - were erected at Anzac Place within Central Park. Piper Graeme Clarke piped in the proceedings, and also played while participants moved off to Wingham Memorial Services Club for "a few beers and reminiscing" after the short ceremony was concluded.
Wingham RSL Sub-branch president Terry Gould, former RAAF nursing sister Del Heuke OAM and Tony Ryan presented speeches for the ceremony, with Tony talking about the humanitarian work RAAF members do, such as in the recent floods.
