As reported, the cup will switch to a November date from this year.
The 2021 edition of the Taree Cup will be run on Sunday November 21 and in the future the cup will be on the third Sunday of November.
Race club chairman Greg Coleman said major cup meetings in regional areas, including Wagga Wagga, Scone and Grafton all enjoy significant support from their local councils.
All pour millions of dollars into the local economy.
He added the club would like to hear from the business community on ways to lift the cup day profile, which he concedes as waned somewhat in recent years.
"We want to put on an event that is beneficial to the Manning Valley,'' he said.
Mr Coleman added there was no thought about changing the cup to a Friday and seeking a half day holiday, as has been suggested in the past.
"Friday is a major business day in this area,'' he said.
"Businesses aren't going to close for a half day holiday.''
He added that half day holidays in regional areas for events like a cup meeting or a local show are 'evaporating.'
Mr Coleman confirmed the Hopkins-Livermore Cup will remain in August.
This was previously the feature race on the opening meeting of the then two day Taree Cup Carnival, run on the Friday before the Sunday cup. Racing returns to the Bushland Drive track next Friday, March 12. The eight race program will be headlined by the Hannam Vale Cup.
