The free course is being offered to anyone concerned about family, friends, colleagues or others in the veteran community experiencing common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, psychosis or substance abuse problems. First emergency response members are also invited to take part.
The Mental Health First Aid Course is a national educational workshop to help participants learn practical skills for helping a family member, friend, coworker or other person who is experiencing mental health problems.
The course aims to help you to:
- Learn how to listen and respond to someone with a mental health problem, even if they are experiencing a crisis.
- Help someone access the support they might need as part of their recovery journey.
- Actively reduce stigma in the veteran community, by responding appropriately to myths and misunderstandings about mental illness.
This course is developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia and delivered by Open Arms qualified instructors, who specialise in working with the veteran community.
Attendance at both days is essential. Lunch is also provided.
To register go to www.openarms.gov.au/get-support/programs-workshops/upcoming.
If anybody has a problem registering or wants further information please give our Old Bar RSL Sub-branch member John Macartney a call on 6557 4165 or 0427 787 296.
