The policy sets out the maximum amounts council will pay for specific expenses and facilities, to support all councillors in undertaking their civic duties.
"This is all about enabling the reasonable and appropriate reimbursement of expenses and provision of facilities," MidCoast Council general manager, Adrian Panuccio said.
"It ensures accountability and transparency, and seeks to align councillor expenses and facilities with the community's expectations."
The policy has been prepared in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993 and Local Government (General) Regulation 2005, and complies with the Office of Local Government's guidelines for the payment of expenses and provision of facilities to Mayors and Councillors in NSW.
From general travel expenses on council business, accommodation and meals, and professional development through to home office expenses, Information and Communication Technology expenses and access to facilities in a councillor room, expenses not explicitly addressed in the policy will not be paid or reimbursed.
The draft policy is now on public exhibition and will be open for feedback until 4.30pm Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
