The traditional service at Taree Baptist Church was unable to go ahead on Tuesday, September 29 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, a slideshow of photos was uploaded to the police district Facebook page to reflect on previous years.
An intimate ceremony did proceed at The Domain in Sydney. NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police and Emergency Services Minister David Elliott attended.
"It's a very solemn day for all police officers across the state as we remember those who have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty," Commissioner Fuller said.
Mr Elliott said thousands of officers were involved in the bushfire relief effort and remain on the frontline during the fight against COVID-19. "These operations have played an enormous part in keeping our State safe and every officer in the force deserves thanks," he said.
