The important milestone for the hospital happened on Monday, September 21 and, as such, completed the first stage of upgrades at the hospital.

Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead toured the department on Monday, September 28 with Manning Base Hospital medical imaging chief radiographer Tony Burns, general manager Jodi Nieass, Greater Metropolitan Health Services (GMHS) executive director Karen Kelly, and Hunter New England Imaging chief radiographer Darrin Gray.

"The expanded imaging department now features a new CT and bone density scanner which is an important enhancement for health care in the Taree region," Mr Bromhead said.

"These new facilities ensure patients have access to fast, high-quality diagnostic imaging close to home.

"With this department now fully operational, stage one of the Manning Base Hospital upgrade is complete both in construction and functionality."

The relocation and expansion of the department left a vacant space within the hospital building. Hunter New England Local Health District will now consider the options for its use.

A draft clinical services plan for the $100 million stage two hospital upgrade was submitted to NSW Health for feedback.

It's part of the State government's commitment to spend billions of dollars for health infrastructure across NSW in the coming years.

"As an ex nurse, fighting to better our health care has always been a top priority and I'm proud to see the progress we're making in Myall Lakes," Mr Bromhead said.

Stage one of the hospital upgrade also included enhanced cancer care and renal dialysis services, consultation rooms and a new car park.
