Rodeo steward Carl Schubert was hopeful the event will go ahead in January but said the decision was out of his control given the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It is still up in the air at the moment but the plan is to go ahead as usual. The decision is out of our hands so it's pending until the government tells us what to do," Carl said.
A crowdless rodeo is still on table but it's not the preferred option.
"We could do it without crowds and I would love to put it on for the sponsors and competitors but we'd miss out on the ticket and bar take," Carl said.
"But I'm just hopeful we can still run it."
Carl alluded to the recent Cobar Rodeo in Central West NSW, which went ahead with restrictions.
Competitors numbers were capped while those outside a 150km radius were not permitted.
So if the Wingham event was to proceed, the local talent would be able to compete.
With restrictions starting to ease across the State, here's hoping the popular event will proceed.
